The Staff team

David Rietveld (Senior Minister or Rector)

David is the senior Minister of BayWest. He is married to Marianne, and they have four children of primary school age. David completed his first degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Tasmania. He also has a Bachelor of Theology (Moore), a Master of Arts (Theology, Morling) and is undertaking a PhD in preaching.

When not in the office (or the church), or running his kids around to sports or ballet, you might find David on the soccer field or perhaps our riding his bike taking in beautiful views around Sandy Bay.

Charles Fehre (Honouray Assistant)
Charles has been a Minister for a long time.  Charles brings a wealth of experience to the staff team at BayWest.  He is a cabinet maker by trade.  Charles retired after a long period of service as Rector of St Paul's Glenorchy.  Serving the people of God is in his blood and he came out of retirement to help the team at BayWest.

Charles' main responsibilities are the 8am Service and the Lawrenny Court Ministry.

Jill Martin (Assistant)

Jill was ordained as a minister at the start of 2006 and the next day she was commissioned as the assistant here at BayWest.  Jill's many responsibilities at BayWest include children's ministry and small groups.  She also plays a key role in the work of the work of Mission Afloat.

Jill's other interests include bushwalking through Tasmania's many great forests and she doesn't mind a bit of Gilbert and Sullivan either.

Tim Wherrett (Mission)

Tim is responsible for mission at BayWest.  He is the first person in the Diocese of Tasmania to be employed by a local church for the sole purpose of mission.  Tim also oversees the leadership team of 6pm.  Tim has completed a degree in Agriculture Science and at the start of this year handed in his thesis for his PhD in the field (both at UTas).  He is also currently studying for his teaching diploma through distance education from the University of New England.

Tim is also married to Emma and they are the proud parents of Sophie.  One of Tim's other passions is the outdoors.  He can often be seen paddling down one of Tasmania's many great rivers in his kayak.

Chris Bowditch (Intern)

Chris is an intern at BayWest.  His main role is to coordinate the Youth Ministry at BayWest (Cross-Eyed).  While doing this, he is also studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Sociology and Public Policy at UTas.  All things going to plan he will graduate mid-year 2007.  He is enjoying the challenge the internship program presents of working in ministry.

His other interests include: music, he plays the flute, reading a good book (not that he gets time) and sport.
