BayWest’s Values

1.      We value our past. BayWest is a church that stands in the Christian, the Protestant, and the Anglican traditions.

Therefore we affirm the following truths as foundational to the Christian faith:

·         the Bible is God’s word and instructs us in life and doctrine.

·         our salvation comes through grace alone

·         by faith alone

·         in Christ alone

·         to the glory of God

 

 As Tasmanian Anglicans we value

·         prayerful activism

·         an enlivened Biblical faith

·         being spirit filled

·         taking initiatives in mission

 

2.      We seek to be relevant to our time and place

God has called us to be a light to Hobart and beyond in the 21st Century. Therefore we 

·         seek to understand and be relevant to our community and culture

·         are mindful of the strengths and resources we have as a church

·         are willing to change any of our structures, services, programs and methods so as we can more effectively engage with our culture and community for Christ

·         recognise that people are diverse, yet the church is called to express our underlying unity in Christ

 

3.      We love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

This will express itself in

·         being passionate for God

·         a thoughtful deep-thinking faith

·         whole lives dedicated as living sacrifices to God

 

4.      We love our neighbours as ourselves

Therefore as a church we

·         are a community, not an organisation

·         put people first and programs second

·         appreciate the role of relationships of different sizes

·         love and care for the whole person the way Jesus treated people

 

5.      We value the ministry of all

The Christian community is a place where all are given gifts, and all are called to use those gifts to encourage and nurture others. Therefore we

·         affirm the giftedness of everyone

·         desire to see all using their giftedness to serve God and others

·         are committed to equipping people for ministry

·         value the companionship and synergy of team ministry

·         appreciate that not just on Sundays, but in all of life we are called to serve Christ and be a witness to him
